Electric Vehicle
Electric Vehicle fires pose many of the same challenges as other battery-related fire losses, but on a vastly different scale. Many EVs use the same battery cells as those found in flashlights, laptops, or Bluetooth speakers, but in EVs there are hundreds or thousands of times more cells present. A fault with one can spread to others, and tracking the fault to a single battery cell can be difficult or impossible. But that does not mean a cause cannot be determined. Careful analysis can allow an investigator to narrow the possible origin and cause of a fire to an extremely small set of possibilities, making a determination possible. It is, however critical to approach EV fire investigations with the unique safety challenges at top of mind throughout.
